METROFREIGHT

METROFREIGHT is a five year international project (2013-2017) on the topic of urban freight which brings together several academic institutions and research centres located in four major cities: Los Angeles, Paris, New York and Séoul. The bodies involved are:

As well as its academic partners, METROFREIGHT also brings together local authorities the City and County of Los Angeles, the City of Paris and the Île -de-France Region, the Institute for Planning and urban design (IAU), the Paris Urban Planning Workshop (APUR) and the Regional and Inter-Département Directorate for Infrastructure and Development (DRIEA), the City of New York and the City of Seoul. UPSis also an economic partner of the research centre.

METROFREIGHT is financed by the Volvo Research and Educational Foundations (VREF), a foundation affiliated to Volvo which finances ten centres of excellence worldwide on the theme of the urban transport of the future.

The METROFREIGHT research centre has been built around the topic of very large metro areas and is marked out by its goal of getting the different levels of local government in the four areas (Los Angeles, New York, Seoul and Paris)to work closely together. MetroFreight covers the following research topics:

  • Databases and surveys on urban freight transport
  • Reducing pollutant and CO2 emissions from urban freight transport
  • Optimizing the last mile
  • Urban logistics property
  • Alternative transport modes
  • Intelligent transport systems
  • Congestion pricing and tolls

On METROFREIGHT DAY - 17 April 2014 – the first results of the programme were presented to stakeholders in the Paris region. They are also presented on the research centre’s website: www.metrans.org/metrofreight
